Organiser John Wall says the response to the move has been more positive than expected.

He says although not as many tickets can be sold for the Brisbane event, sales have picked up since the move was announced.

The 600 Sounds music festival, to be held in the precinct once the day’s racing is complete, will also attract Empire of the Sun, Sneaky Sound System, the Angels, the Baby Animals and Noiseworks.
The Beach Boys have been named as the headline entertainment act at the Gold Coast 600 motor race in October.

The band’s Mike Love says the Gold Coast gig will be a one-off on this trip but they are planning another visit to Australia in 2012.

“It’s going to be fun – or should I say, Fun Fun Fun,” he joked.

“We sing the songs in their original keys and if you close your eyes it sounds just like the mid ’60’s when we’re singing California Girls, I Get Around, Fun Fun Fun, Help Me Rhonda, Do it Again and all that.

“We’re really obsessed with making those songs come to life like the originals and being true to their original forms.

“The subject matter of The Beach Boys was diverse. It was songs about things we knew from growing up in southern California, not too far from the beach.

“How do you get to the beach? In your car. What kind of car do you have? Well I’d like to have a Corvette, I’d like to have a Thunderbird.

Gold Coast 600 general manager Shane Howard said 600 Sounds would the bands play over three nights on two stages in the Broadwater Parklands precinct.

Tickets would allow entry to both the music festival and the V8 racing.

“The admission for each night of 600 Sounds is included in the same day ticket price, and with a unique racing format during the day followed by the nightly entertainment that ticket is amazing value for money,” he said.

Mr Howard said $49 would pay for a full day’s racing and six bands on the Friday.

Sports Minister Phil Reeves, said the event would be a “major boost” to the Queensland economy.
“It’s hard to predict what will be bigger, the roar generated from the V8s charging through the streets of the Gold Coast or the one that will greet Rock ‘n’ Roll royalty when the Beach Boys take to the stage,” Mr Reeves said.

Broadbeach Alliance has announced that Australian legend of the music industry Kate Ceberano will headline the Broadbeach Jazz and Food Festival in August.

The one off free to attend public concert will be held on Saturday the 21st of August as a non-ticketed event.

Ceberano is best known for her continual presence in the Australian Music Industry and performances in shows like Jesus Christ Superstar, Dancing with the Stars, It Takes Two and has also been the recipient of countless awards including a prestigious MO Award for Best Jazz Performer at the end of 1990.

The multi ARIA winner is extremely excited about headlining the 2010 Broadbeach Jazz & Food Festival.

“I’m loving everything that this involves beaches, music and good food! I am so happy to be the siren at the prow of this festival cruiser” said Ms Ceberano.

As a female artist that has been in the Australian music industry for over twenty-five years, Kate Ceberano has defied all the odds and continues to find success in all that she does.

“I know I am privileged to be where I am at in my career. I don’t take anything for granted, I am thrilled to have this opportunity to follow my love of music, but I work hard to be where I am” she says.

Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick who is responsible for securing Ceberano for the Festival says having a large headline act will not only gain exposure for the event itself but also offer an incredible experience for those who attend.

“This is a completely free public event where you can stand in the street, dine in the restaurants or stay in accommodation and sit on the balcony and watch Kate Ceberano perform. You don’t even need a ticket which is unique in itself.” said Mrs McCormick.

Ceberano’s performance will be held on a stage situated in Surf Parade, which will be closed to traffic for the weekend.

The Broadbeach Jazz and Food Festival will be held throughout the Broadbeach precinct from the 19th to the 22nd of August 2010 and is set to showcase local and national Jazz artists performing in venues and outdoor stages throughout the area.

The Festival will also present a host of culinary events showcasing the quality of restaurants on offer in Broadbeach and demonstrate why the precinct is considered the dining capital of the City.

Organisers suggest if you are looking at booking accommodation to make sure you book early to ensure you don’t miss out.

V8 Supercars Chairman Tony Cochrane insists that the face of the Gold Coast’s motor racing carnival would undergo a significant change this year, as the organizers are trying to shed the event’s seedy, booze-fueled reputation and lure more families.

As part of the transformation, event organizers have even shortened the track to avoid nearby buildings, where women often bared their breasts during the event.

“We got rid of a lot of the high-rise buildings that didn’t do a very good job of policing the behaviour,” The Australian quoted Cochrane, as saying.

“We are not having any ratbag behaviour. We will have designated alcohol zones and family friendly areas where you can’t take alcohol and we’ll work closer with police and security,” he added.

A three-day SuperCarnivale with the The Armor All Gold Coast 600

A three-day SuperCarnivale of entertainment with the Great Lawn of the Broadwater Parklands hosting the launch of the Gold Coast’s new annual entertainment festival to take place in 2010 over Friday October 22 – Sunday October 24.

Attended by around 400 members of the media, local community, business, Government and sponsors, the re-launch of the event – now managed by Gold Coast based V8 Supercars Australia – included the introduction of Armor All as the major naming rights sponsor, 18 international stars unveiled and the confirmation of three massive nightly concerts at the Broadwater Parklands during the event.
Major artists performing each night include

Empire of the Sun, London DJ Ian Carey from the Ministry of Sound, Kid Kenobe and MC Shureshock, Richard Clapton, Hook N Sling, the Baby Animals, Sneaky Sound System, Funkoars, Static Revenger featuring Luciana, James Reyne, Mondo Rock, The Angels, The Potbelleez, Noiseworks and The Only.

They will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in a massive line-up of Australian and international artists just 600m from the circuit precinct.

The feature international Act will be announced in late May.

People can access the entire weekend including the racing, on-track entertainment and every concert for as little as $136 (full ticket prices listed below).

The Armor All Gold Coast 600 will be the official name of the V8 Supercar Championship Series component as part of the SuperCarnivale which will take in the 18 international drivers and 16 Artists that will play across three big nights at Broadwater Parklands, as well as massively reduced ticket prices compared to last year.

The emphasis on families has meant a total redesign of the circuit, cheaper and more grandstand seat options, with most covered, the clearing out of Macintosh Island Park for all new family and alcohol free zones, new general admission areas and easier access around the circuit.

“Because of the world-wide reputation of V8 Supercars these international drivers want to come to the Gold Coast to co-drive with our home-grown Champions such as Craig Lowndes, Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander – drivers who can mix it with the best in the world,” said Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.

“They will take part in the Armor All Gold Coast 600; however, the Gold Coast Supercarnivale is more than just a car race. There will be a huge range of on and off track activities for families, race goers and spectators at this totally refreshed event.

“Most ticket prices will be substantially reduced with the Gold Coast Bulletin offering coupons to allow free entry for children 12 and under, so long as they are accompanied by a paying adult.

“With a new format and different attractions, the Gold Coast SuperCarnivale will be a huge motor-racing and tourism drawcard for the region.

“In fact, it’s estimated that more than $60 milllion will be injected into the Queensland economy and more than 500 jobs will be created.”

V8 Supercars Chairman Tony Cochrane said he was ecstatic with the launch of the new Armor All Gold Coast 600 which will feature some of the biggest names in the sporting world from 12 different countries.

“A SuperCarnivale of entertainment, the event will be headlined by the Armor All Gold Coast 600 in their third endurance event for the season, pairing with 18 international drivers (one per team) across two 300km races over the three day event,” said Cochrane.

“Combining racing with entertainment, the Rock’n’Race format that has proved so popular at other events such as the Sydney Telstra 500 and the Clipsal 500 will be an integral part of the Gold Coast race, with the Broadwater Parklands precinct to host concerts for up to 35,000 same day event patrons each night of the event.

“Admission to the concerts is free with a same day event ticket, as will be all of the on-track entertainment and plenty of other racing from the best Australian support categories.

“With the new look launched tonight we also welcome Armor All as naming rights sponsors in a four-year extension to their already extensive involvement in our Championship.”
